Meet people, discover new music, and learn to Lindy Hop with Oxford Lindy Hoppers! This energetic partner dance originated in African American communities at the height of the Swing Era in the 1920s, 30s, and 40s and is still a global phenomenon.

Fire Station Swing brings you a fun, friendly and progressive series of dance classes on Thursdays in 10-week blocks in the heart of Oxford. The styles you’ll learn include Lindy Hop, Charleston and solo jazz.

  1. Fundamentals Class: 19:15 to 20:15 @ The Loft. Requires no previous dance experience. By the end of the block, you will have experienced 6-count & 8-count Lindy Hop as well as the Charleston.
  2. Guided Practice & Social Dancing: 20:15 to 20:45 @ The Loft. Included for students of either class. Practice the things you learned in class in the context of social dancing. Teachers will be in the room to help with any questions.
  3. Experienced Class: 20:45 to 21:45 @ The Loft. For regular social dancers who are comfortable with dancing at both medium and faster tempos. Gain a deeper understanding of rhythms, musicality and expression.
  4. Social Dancing: 21:45 to 22:30 @ The Loft. Included for students of either class.

No need to bring a partner for any of our classes!

These classes are progressive, split into roughly 3 mini blocks dedicated to a theme or topic. You can drop in at any point during a block and pay at the door if you've missed a few classes, but the expectation will be that you can pick up the material from the recaps at the start. If you are new to partner dancing or Lindy Hop, we recommend joining the starting week of the mini block of classes and attending consistently. This way, you will see tangible progress and get to know our lovely community of dancers as well!
